IND vs AUS Test: 5 Tests likely to decide Rohit Sharma’s FUTURE as India Test captain, BCCI official says ‘Can’t afford to lose another ICC trophy’
Who are still in the race? Australia India SouthAfrica SriLanka WestIndies
India vs Australia: World No 1 take on World No 2 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The four-match Test series could decide the fate of the WTC Final. The winner of the series will officially confirm their spot in the final. The loser won’t be out but they will have to depend on results of other two series.
How can India qualify? India are in the second spot with 58.93 percentage point. Australia are at the top with 75.56 PCT. India need to win the series at any cost. A draw in the series will be catastrophic for India as SouthAfrica and SriLanka can leapfrog Rohit Sharma & Co. Even a 1-0 win over Australia could be enough. The scenario is India must win at any cost. India can also qualify with a 1-3 loss to Australia if WestIndies beat SouthAfrica and NZ beat SL.

Australia: Pat Cummins & Co on the other hand are in a better place with 75.56 PCT. However, their advantage could diminish in challenging Indian conditions. Australia must avoid a clean sweep in the 4-match Test series. A win in 4 Tests will confirm their spot in the WTC Finals.
Aussies can still qualify with a 0-4 thrashing if WestIndies beat SouthAfrica 2-0 and NewZealand beat SriLanka 2-0.
The only way Australia can be knocked out is if they lose to India 0-4 and SL blank NZ 2-0.
SouthAfrica: From a prime contender, Proteas have lost steam and are in a difficult spot. Even if they win against WerstIndies 2-0, their place in WTC Finals won’t be guaranteed.
Proteas must beat WestIndies 2-0. They will also have to hope that India vs Australia Test series ends in a draw. Furthermore, SA need NZ to beat SL in their 2-match Test series.WestIndies: For WestIndies, it’s a complicated process. They are all but out. However, if everything falls in place, Windies can make it as the 2nd team in the WTC Final.
Windies need Australia to beat India 4-0. WI also need to win against SouthAfrica 2-0. Furthermore, WI have to hope that NZ win either 2-0 or 1-0 against SriLanka. That way, WI will move to the 2nd spot with 50 PCT.SriLanka: The equation for SriLanka is pretty straightforward. They must beat NewZealand away. But that’s not it. They have to hope for a clean sweep for either Australia or India. The SA vs WI must end in a draw or WestIndies need to win the series for Dimuth Karunaratne-led team to qualify.
