Osman Bukari steals Cristiano Ronaldo's 'SIUUU' celebration after scoring for Ghana against Portugal

Osman Bukari stole Cristiano Ronaldo's infamous 'SIUUU' celebration as he scored a late goal for Ghana against the star's Portugal in their opening match of the 2022 World Cup.

Bukari scored a late header to reduce the deficit to 3-2, and creating a nervy finish as Portugal tried to hold on to the win - whilst Ronaldo sat on the bench, having just been removed from play.

And the 37-year-old, who has been unavoidable in the news due to his recent parting with Manchester United, was noticably fuming on the bench after Bukari copied his famous move in the closing moments of the match.

Whilst Ghana came close to scoring an equaliser during nine minutes of additional time at Stadium 974, they were unable to do so.

The match was goalless at the interval. Ronaldo opened the scoring in the second half, converting a dubious penalty which he won after 65 minutes of action. Ghana equalised eight minutes later, but Portugal were able to put themselves into a 3-1 lead before the late drama at Stadium 974.

The 37-year-old Portuguese captain has been the centre of a media storm across the past fortnight, first by the airing of an interview with Piers Morgan in which he tore into the running of Man United, and then with Tuesday's confirmation that the club had terminated his contract by mutual consent. FIFA listed Ronaldo as a free agent for Thursday's game.

His converted penalty meant he will go down in the history books as the first man to score in five consecutive FIFA World Cups, matching a record only held by Brazilian star Marta in the women's game. He marked the opening goal with his 'SIUUU' celebation.

In Ronaldo's first match since the Morgan interview was shown, he captained Portugal until the 88th minute, when he was replaced by Goncalo Ramos. It meant he was not on the field when Bukari netted only his second international goal a minute later.

The Red Star Belgrade winger, 23, made his debut for Ghana in March 2021, and scored his first goal for the country when he nabbed the third in Ghana's 3-0 home win over Madagascar.

Bukari's header from six yards out past Portuguese goalkeeper Diogo Costa was on the global stage, and he chose to mark it by celebrating like one of his opponents.

Portugal's win secures top spot in Group H after the opening two matches, with Uruguay and South Korea settling for a scoreless draw earlier on Thursday.

Their next fixture against the South American side is on Monday evening - and Ronaldo will be hoping there will be no opportunities for one of their strikers to also copy the 'SIUUU' celebration.
