A video of a chimpanzee playing table tennis with its brain was posted online last year by Elon Musk’s company, Neuralink. A few days later, Musk tweeted that the technology could be tested on humans and could treat neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. Musk, which also owns Tesla, SpaceX, and Twitter A wireless device developed by Musk’s startup, Brain Chip Interfaces, will be ready for human clinical trials within six months, he said.
Musk said at an event at the company’s California headquarters that it intends to use it to insert coin-sized computer brain chips into human patients. “We expect to be able to insert Neuralink into humans in about six months,” Musk explained during the event.
Musk also said his company is developing two of his other key technologies, including implants. In addition, there are eye implants designed to improve or restore human vision. Six years ago, Musk founded Neuralink, a company that develops interfaces for controlling the brain. The company is developing technology that can be implanted in the nervous system to record brain activity and potentially stimulate it.
The company has developed a microchip that can be inserted into the brain and connected to a computer. The device tracks and even activates brain activity.
Neuralink’s coin-sized chip will be physically implanted in the brain by a neurosurgeon using a robot. Link, a chipset, is inserted into the skull during this process.
