Eddie Howe, the manager of Newcastle, believes Loris Karius will be completely prepared to enter the high stakes of the Carabao Cup final clash, following Nick Pope’s sadness.
Pope was sent off for committing a foul on an opponent outside his designated area during Saturday’s Premier League loss 2-0 against Liverpool and consequently will not play in next Sunday’s match with Manchester United at Wembley.
German Karius signed a short-term agreement with the Magpies in September which has been extended until the end of the season, but has yet to play a game for them. Nevertheless, he is sure to get his chance soon, as Newcastle is gearing up for the most important match they have faced in recent times.
When questioned regarding the preparedness of the 29-year-old to do what was asked of him, Head Coach Howe replied: “This is why we recruited someone with his profile.
Howe noted that Karius and Mark Gillespie are the last two selections for the Wembley match, since Martin Dubravka already took part in the tournament during his brief stint at United and Karl Darlow is currently loaned at Hull. He added that Nick Pope was very despondent, as they all were due to his absence.
He’s been extraordinary for us during the season and should not be excluded from the game, but this is the situation and we will figure out what our options are.
Since the Bundesliga tie between Union Berlin and Hoffenheim ended in a 1-1 draw in February 2021, Karius has not been seen in a competitive match. Unfortunately, he had a disastrous experience in Liverpool’s 3-1 loss to Real Madrid in the 2018 Champions League final.
When questioned regarding his frame of mind, Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Reds, vehemently asserted: “I am absolutely convinced of this.”
Pope was dismissed after wrongly gauging how Alisson Becker tried to stop Mohamed Salah from attaining the ball, but then Newacastle’s defense, which had only let in 13 goals in 22 games, had already been broken through twice with balls that went over the top, enabling Darwin Nunez then Cody Gakpo to score.
Both Allan Saint-Maximin and Dan Burn struck the crossbar as the ten players battled on, but ultimately, it was an unreturnable detriment.
”
Howe affirmed that the object had impacted his arm.
Is it a penalty?
In my opinion, I believe that was overly severe, from my point of view.
After Liverpool earned their second victory in a row, they now only stand six points away from Newcastle, who occupy the fourth place in the standings, although the Reds have still one match to play. A joyful Jurgen Klopp stated Nunez had potentially hurt his shoulder and that the matter was being examined. In the end, he asked for the team to be more dependable.
”
He described the victory as overwhelming and extremely significant.
