Seamus Coleman scored a brilliant goal from a sharp angle, giving Everton the 1-0 victory over fellow Premier League strugglers Leeds United at Goodison Park on Saturday.
The Toffees have recorded two victories in three games under Sean Dyche, the most recent one being a triumph over a fellow relegation contender Leeds, which was even more celebrated than the unexpected defeat of Arsenal.
Everton has climbed to 16th in the standings, one point higher than 18th-place West Ham United.
Michael Skubala, Leeds’ interim head coach, was pleased with the effort from his team, however their execution was lacking. The standings make for grim viewing and fans should be ready for a critical game against Southampton.
Leeds is currently in 19th place, with a total of 19 points.
Jesse Marsch was let go from his job as coach of the American team and in his first two games leading the group, they tied with Manchester United away and then lost narrowly at home against them only a few days later.
Leeds put up a strong fight, both on and off the playing field, yet this posed no dilemma for the prior downbeat Toffees.
It is shocking to consider how the team operated while Frank Lampard was in charge, but the current manager makes it all make sense.
Sean Dyche’s team was ready to play, and it was Dwight McNeil (formerly of Burnley) and American national team star Tyler Adams that got into a physical altercation that had several players of each side needing to be separated by referees and other people who were trying to make peace.
Seamus Coleman’s “was-it-on-purpose” finish only adds to its brilliance, given his long-time and substantial role with the national team of the Republic of Ireland and his passionate support of Everton.
Although there’s no guarantee of safety, Everton no longer make it easy for their opponents.
Sean Dyche will accept this, and Everton supporters should be content with it as well.
On Saturday at 10am Eastern Time, Everton will be welcoming Aston Villa to their field, while Leeds will be playing host to Southampton.
The ability of Amadou Onana, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Idrissa Gana Gueye of Everton to control the midfield will be an essential part of the team’s efforts to remain in the league, as will Dominic Calvert-Lewin even if he cannot play due to injury.
The back line for Everton will be well-structured, and dead-ball situations appear to be an area of concentration when it comes to generating scoring chances.
Leeds persist in relying on the youthful Wilfried Gnonto to provide goals and motivation, while Tyler Adams and Weston McKennie from the USMNT are striving to prevail in midfield and propel the squad ahead.
Protecting appropriately continues to be the greatest problem for Leeds.
At the beginning, Newcastle had the upper hand, but that quickly changed when Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo scored and Nick Pope made a foolish error outside the box that resulted in Newcastle being reduced to ten players for almost an hour and a half at their home ground.
Newcastle kept resisting even though they were down a man, getting more shots and a higher expected goal amount than Chelsea, who would just look at the score as their proof of winning.
Liverpool has risen to eighth in the rankings with a total of 35 points, while Newcastle in fourth place has the lowest number of losses in the Premier League, with 41 points.
Though Liverpool received a favorable result from the 2-0 away win, they should not overestimate their success as they hadn’t been their usual-selves for over an hour with the advantage of having an extra player and two goals.
Alisson Becker made four important saves for Liverpool, however they allowed more than two goals to be scored by a Newcastle team who had one of their players sent off early in the competition.
Magpies goalie Nick Pope sprinted off in an attempt to capture Alisson’s deep pass, but he was too late; his diving header bounced off the ground and into his grip, resulting in an instant dismissal for a foul committed outside of the penalty area.
Despite being two goals ahead, Liverpool had left a pathway for Newcastle to make a comeback on multiple occasions.
Despite this, there were many good things to take away.
Darwin Nunez, who had been previously bitten by a snake, contributed to the total by getting a point, while Cody Gakpo scored again for the second successive game.
Trent Alexander-Arnold appears to be looking much better and Virgil van Dijk was taken back into the lineup, getting some playing time prior to a challenging matchup with Real Madrid.
Without the presence of Bruno Guimaraes, Newcastle has had two defeats and four ties, yet he is set to return in time for the League Cup Final against Manchester United next weekend.
The objectives both were remarkable.
Trent’s and Mo’s passes to Darwin and Cody were outstanding.
It would have been really nice to have a bit more, but it’s more than enough for now.
It’s been a while since we last had this, so this day is special.
Let’s head to Anfield!
Cody Gakpo is doing well at an opportune period, as he will be needed when playing Liverpool.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is a tremendous asset for Liverpool when in an attacking mode.
Alisson Becker is perceived to be among the top, if not the best, goalkeepers in the English top division.
Allan Saint-Maximin’s intricate dribbling caused Liverpool to stay discombobulated for the majority of the match.
Although Andy Robertson is no longer in the prime of his life, he regularly puts forth a maximum effort to make up for it.
Liverpool will be playing against Real Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16 first leg on Tuesday, then heading to Crystal Palace for the weekend.
On Sunday, Feb. 26, Newcastle and Manchester United will face off at Wembley Stadium in the League Cup Final.
Newcastle are assessing the injuries to Callum Wilson, Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron, with Bruno Guimaraes and Joe Willock already sidelined.
Even with the addition of Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez, Liverpool’s offense still revolves around Mohamed Salah. However, the reinstatement of Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota make it much easier for Jurgen Klopp to showcase the skills of his Egyptian talent.
We can’t help but question if Kevin De Bruyne’s impressive helping stats would have been even greater had Jose Mourinho utilized him more efficiently during his time at Chelsea.
Kevin De Bruyne has twelve assists in this Premier League season, far outpacing his nearest rivals Bukayo Saka of Arsenal and Christian Eriksen from Manchester United in that stat, which bring his career total to 97 assists.
!) more than Alan Shearer
That is fifth in the entire history of the sport, two spots higher than Dennis Bergkamp, and 65 more than Alan Shearer.
The 31-year-old Belgian player joined the Chelsea squad from Werder Bremen when they were 22, yet they didn’t stay there for long and only made 425 appearances in the six months before they transferred to Wolfsburg.
Before his move to Manchester City, De Bruyne had a successful stint in the Bundesliga. He ended the first season with six assists and followed that up with an impressive 21 assists the next season. He has since won the Premier League Playmaker of the Season Award twice and looks primed to win it a third time after providing an impressive 20 assists this season.
Harry Kane, Mohamed Salah, and Eden Hazard have been among those who have been bestowed with the honor of the award which has only been around for 5 years.
De Bruyne spearheaded the Premier League in terms of assists in 2016-17, the season prior to the premier league receiving the accreditation.
His numbers suggest that we can expect more from ‘KDB‘ as he is providing an impressive 3.59 chances per 90 minutes.
De Bruyne is once again proving his speed to set up goals, having had a 15-goal, 8-assist season. He is hoping to leave opponents in the dust, particularly Erling Haaland who got involved as well.
Someone who may be tempted to dismiss Erling Haaland’s amazing beginning as a forward for the Premier League should be forewarned that it is not a wise action.
We understand that it can be slightly boring to know who will be the Golden Boot winner for 2022 in advance, the only interesting thing being how many goals they will end up with, but what Erling Haaland is managing to do this season is incredible and should be praised without hesitation.
Erling Haaland has scored a remarkable 26 goals in the Premier League, which is nine more than the next competitor, Harry Kane of Tottenham. This talented athlete achieved the feat of 20 goals in a single season faster than anyone before him, beating Kevin Phillips’ record set at Sunderland by seven games.
Although Haaland is faring better than predicted in terms of goals, it appears realistic to anticipate that he might soon hold the Premier League record.
Haaland may not be able to achieve 50 goals due to the upcoming fixtures for Man City, but the Premier League record is definitely being challenged and hitting that milestone isn’t completely inconceivable.
Mohamed Salah’s 32 goals scored for Liverpool in the 2017-18 season over 38 games is the most in a single campaign, while Andy Cole of Newcastle and Alan Shearer of Blackburn had the highest in 42-match seasons in the 90s with 34 goals each.
Haaland might also surpass the single season record for combined goals and assists, surpassing the 42-game peak.
The spotlight is on the upcoming 2022-23 Premier League schedule, especially after the dramatic events that took place this season.
