Chris Cadden admits Martin Boyle will be a huge miss for Hibs after the news he is out for the season.
The 29-year-old had already been ruled of out Australia's World Cup campaign, denying him the dream chance to play at the finals with his adopted nation. But today the Easter Road club confirmed the unwanted news that Boyle's season was over after undergoing surgery.
The winger suffered a knock to his knee during a game against St Mirren last month and despite initial hopes the injury wouldn't prove to be too bad, scans have revealed a ruptured ACL. It's a huge blow for Lee Johnson's man who could be doing with their star man as they try to improve their form after the break.
Right-back Cadden, who has loved lining up with Boyle since his return, concedes his absence leaves a hole in the side.
“If any team loses a player like Martin you’re going to miss him but it’s up to the rest of us to fill the gap," he said.
"It’s going to be hard; Boyley is a top, top player, and his numbers of goals and the impact he has on the game is something that any team would miss if he’s not there.
“When I heard he was coming back I was absolutely buzzing to get that partnership again on the right side. I love playing with him.
"He works really hard off the ball as well, and I think that’s something he doesn’t get enough credit for. His running stats are through the roof. He’s really good to play with and he’s one who you can just give him the ball and let him go and do his stuff.”
The 26-year-old revealed he'd already been in touch with his team-mate after the horror news.
He said: “I gave him a text and wished him all the best and said I hoped he was alright. We were all buzzing to watch him play and with France being the first game we were talking about who he would be playing against.
"I know how buzzing he was for it and we’re all just gutted for him. I think he had a little bit of doubt when he got the injury but he was always positive and he wanted to just get through any pain he had.
"It must be really sore for him, because I know how desperate he was to play. He had little bits of doubts but he seemed more positive.”
Cadden is backing Boyle to put this disappointment behind him and star for the Socceroos at the next World Cup in 2026.
He added: “One hundred per cent he’ll be looking at playing at the next World Cup now. He’ll bounce back from this, no problem.
"He’ll come back, he’ll do his rehab, and he’ll get back for Hibs, first and foremost, and that’s how he gets into the international team. I’ve got no doubts in my mind that Boyley will be fine."

While much can change between now and the end of the season, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com says the Niners and Garoppolo are open to a new contract that would keep the veteran passer in the Bay Area in 2023. Of course, Garoppolo was the subject of numerous reports throughout the offseason, as San Francisco had every intention of trading him and starting life with Trey Lance under center. Per the terms of that contract, the 49ers cannot put a franchise tag on Garoppolo at season’s end, so he will be eligible for free agency in March 2023 with no strings attached. Spotrac presently estimates that he is worth roughly $35MM per year, and given his 41-19 record in San Francisco (including playoffs) and generally solid play throughout his career, that does not seem like a stretch. Whether the 49ers will be the team to pay him that money is an entirely different story.1 day ago Pro Football Rumors
ARLINGTON – Thirteen proved to be an unlucky number for the TCU Horned Frogs. A season of Houdini acts ended in the Big 12 Championship when Kansas State outlasted TCU in overtime, 31-28, to give the Horned Frogs their first loss of the season. The Horned Frogs were passed over by Ohio State in 2014 because the Big 12 didn’t have a conference championship game. He was hit dozens of times in the loss against Kansas State, but he never wavered despite a hot-and-cold performance through the air. Some of that was because of the organic pressure Kansas State was providing without needing to blitz.2 days ago Dave Campbell's Texas Football
Real Madrid have adapted to the new times. As the Premier League finances continue to grow, in particular as the richest owners continue to spend, Real Madrid can no longer extract whomever they want and offer the highest wages. As Real Madrid weigh up whether to look for a back-up or replacement for Karim Benzema, who has struggled with injury this season, Rashford might represent a nice halfway house. Ultimately, Manchester United’s option to extend his deal seems most likely to scupper any Real Madrid hopes of bringing him to the club. Rashford fits the bill for Florentino Perez, the question would then be whether Real Madrid can offer Rashford what he is looking for at an important stage in his career.5 days ago Football Espana
