The stats: Perkins is averaging 13.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists 2.4 steals and 1.2 blocks per game. He is shooting 50 percent from the field this year and 70 percent on free-throw attempts.

Perkins has helped Lake Highlands – ranked No. 2 in The Dallas Morning News’ Class 6A area poll and No. 1 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ 6A state poll – compile a 29-3 record heading into a Region I quarterfinal against Arlington Martin (30-4) at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Ellis Davis Field House.

He said it: “I’ll remember a three-pointer from NBA range I made when we were up two. I’ll always remember the look on the defender’s face. … I never forget when we huddled up as a team after we won against Plano East. We talked what we did and how we did. It was a great experience and Moody Coliseum was a great place to play. … In the past year I have focused on improving the range in my shot, my defense, scoring on the dribble and just becoming a better leader in a positive way.”

Coach said it: “Quinton made some big shots and was really good getting to the rim against Bowie. He made big shots against Plano East, but he was really good on defense in getting nine steals. … What he has improved on this year is his range, shooting 40 percent from three-point range. His decision making and ability to get to the paint has gotten a lot better too.” – Lake Highlands coach Joe Duffield.

Did you know? Perkins started playing basketball in kindergarten and attended Julius Dorsey Elementary School. He said he felt he could play college basketball in the sixth grade after scoring 41 points in the championship of an AAU tournament. His father, Quinton Perkins Sr., played high school basketball at Bryan Adams. … Perkins’ favorite class is business information management, especially in designing homes and neighborhoods. He plans on majoring in business in college and may pursue owning his own clothing and fashion business. … His favorite meal is chicken and waffles with lemon-lime soda. … Perkins’ favorite athlete is Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James because of his play on the court and being a role model. James became the all-time leading scorer in NBA history on Feb. 7.
